Are you fascinated by American Indian art? The dedication to the traditional American Indian arts in Santa Fe means that every year hundreds of thousands of people visit the city just to find out more and immerse themselves in this ancient and interesting culture. One event that draws thousands here each year is the Antique American Indian Art Show, this year starting on August 17th at 6pm for the opening night gala.
The venue for the event is El Museo in The Railyard. The opening night gala is a charity event with all proceeds being donated to KNME New Mexico PBS and it begins at 6pm. The art show starts in earnest the next day and runs until August 20th. This is considered to be one of the most popular social occasions in the Santa Fe calendar. It is a chance to enjoy a glass of wine in the company of other art enthusiasts.
So what can you expect to see? The event is a chance to see some of the historic art works created by different American Indian tribes. Every year the show also hosts a couple of special exhibitions. This year one of the exhibits is entitled ‘Deeply Yao’. This is an exhibition of textile art, jewelry, headdresses and a wide range of spiritual objects connected to the Yao people, a community native to southern China and other parts of Asia.
The second special exhibit for the show is the ‘Chilkat Blankets: Artistic Masterpieces’. This is a great opportunity to see these traditional weavings. They are not often on display so visitors will need to make the most of it this year! The blankets are highly regarded as beautiful pieces of art work, but getting hold of one for your own collection is almost impossible. This one exhibition will have more than a dozen such weavings on display – definitely not to be missed!
Entrance for both the special exhibitions is included in the cost of your show ticket. Tickets for the Antique American Indian Art Show in Santa Fe are available online so make sure that you get yours in advance.
