Bring your jazz hands – New Mexico Jazz Festival

newmexicojazzfestivalSanta Fe is just one of the homes of the New Mexico Jazz Festival and if you plan your visit for July you could be here in time to see some of the amazing acts that will be entertaining both locals and tourists alike.

The festival dates back to 2006 and built on the work already established for the Santa Fe Jazz and International Music Festival that took place every year between 2000 and 2005.  The event is divided between Santa Fe and Albuquerque and every year there are plenty of concerts in both to choose from.   The good news is that some of these are offered free of charge so a tight budget will not stop you from joining in.  One of the partners of the event is the Santa Fe Jazz Foundation.  This is an organization that dates back to 1990 and works to help musicians that need support, usually those who cannot work or who lack health insurance.  The event is not simply designed to bring lots of visitors to town to entertain them, but also supports charitable works such as those carried out by the foundation.

This is a two week festival and taking part will be both local and international artists.  The event starts on July 11th and runs to the 27th and tickets will be on sale soon.

Many visitors to the city at this time of year come just for the jazz festival but you can always combine a few of these concerts with trips to some of the local museums and take advantage of everything else that Santa Fe  has to offer such as the markets, art galleries and outdoor activities.  In addition, the unique history and culture of Santa Fe adds its own flavor to the festival, giving it an ambiance that you will not experience elsewhere.

This year the event will also be promoting the first ‘Signature Jazz Cruise’, due to take place from 30th September to 10th October.  Guests choosing to board the Seabourn will travel from Monte Carlo to Barcelona and will be entertained by the likes of Diana Krall.  Booking for this event and mentioning the New Mexico Jazz Festival will earn you a discount on the cost of the cruise.
